Sunil Hazaray, 68, from Northbrook, Illinois, died on December 6, 2022. Born and raised in Mumbai, India, he was the son of Prof. Manohar and Sindhu (Samel) Hazaray. 

He is survived and will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 43 years, Emmeline (deSouza) Hazaray; son, Neil Hazaray and his wife Rachel, daughter, Sasha Hazaray, and son, Sean Hazaray; a brother, Rajiv Hazaray and his wife Manisha; two grandchildren, Aidan and Neve; and many nieces and nephews.

Sunil graduated from St. Michael’s High School (Mumbai) and University of Mumbai.  He then achieved his Masters in Business Administration from Indian Institute of Management (Calcutta).     

He had a distinguished career spanning over four decades as a business leader for several global Fortune 500 pharmaceutical and diagnostics companies, as well as a number of startups, serving in many senior management positions, including as the President and CEO and Chief Commercial Officer. He was a renowned thought leader and speaker and served on many life sciences advisory boards.

Sunil had many hometowns over his lifetime, including Mumbai, India; Toronto, Canada; Carmel, Indiana; San Jose, California; and Northbrook, Illinois. He was committed to each community where he lived and developed rich relationships in all. He loved to give back to others and did so with his understated, selfless approach. He enjoyed helping lift people up to recognize their strengths and achieve their potential. In both his professional and personal life, Sunil was a beloved mentor to many.

He had passion for health and fitness and completed numerous half marathons. He also loved sharing a good meal and bottle of wine with friends and family.  He adored his family and devoted himself to what they loved most – including travel, music, hockey and entrepreneurship. He loved traveling the world with them and teaching them about his passions, including science, space and everything in between.

He will be remembered for his endless energy, zest for life, and willingness to do anything for anyone. He had a genuine curiosity and passion for learning and teaching others.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation hours from 1 to 5 p.m. CST on Saturday, December 17 with a brief service starting at 3 p.m. CST, at the Smith-Corcoran Glenview Funeral Home, 1104 Waukegan Road, Glenview, Illinois 60025. Donations in lieu of flowers, may be made to either the American Heart Association or National Alliance on Mental Illness.
